Information from the Webmaster : Spam emails

The sending of spam emails is unfortunately a fact of internet life now, and these intrusions are unwelcome. Spammers will take any opportunity they can to usurp valid email addresses for their purposes.

It has come to our attention that the stratfordmusiccentre.org.uk webaddress has been used from time to time by spammers for sending out email. The form of the originating address will be some random characters before the @stratfordmusiccentre, such as in the following (actual) examples:

Kylah.Lapiz@stratfordmusiccentre.org.uk|fenili@stratfordmusiccentre.org.uk|
drjana500@stratfordmusiccentre.org.uk
The content of the emails or their attachments can vary from the innocuous to the unpleasant or contain attachments with potential viruses. Where the spam emails have failed to reach their destination they bounce back to a Stratford Music Centre mailbox, and this is how they have been detected. Unfortunately there have been quite a number of these recently and it is impossible to identify how many might have reached a valid destination.

We identified significant activity particularly on the morning of Monday 27th August 2007, when approx 1,300 rejection notices were received by us in a short period in relation to such emails and this led to our being alerted to the problem. There have been sporadic attacks of this nature subsequently.

We wish to assure anyone who has seen the note on the front page and read this page, or been directed here as a result of emails received, that these emails have most certainly not been issued, sanctioned or condoned by Stratford Music Centre, its Directors and management, or those responsible for the operation of the site. There is little that can be done at present to prevent this abuse of the Stratford Music Centre name but we will continue to monitor the situation.

If you should receive such an email and do not generally recognise the identity of the purported sender, then follow normal precations and delete the email without opening any questionable attachments.
